I thought there might be an interesting way to experiment with MINCING mince. Laying the function of the word over an existing portrayal or idea of MINCE; either mechanical or digital. From this point I began researching current video processes which might be considered, conceptually, as mincers or extruders of some kind: something which would take a flat idea of mince and attempt to extrude it before making it whole again.

What I found to be the most engaging of these was the operation of TIME DISPLACEMENT - which, basically, involves:

Overlaying a gradient map on top of the footage and examining the displacement of the the map's luminance. An algorithm then extrapolates this information, allowing the video to read as: all pixels that are white or brighter than 50% gray are displaced FORWARD in time, all the pixels that are black or darker than 50% gray are displaced BACKWARD in time.

The footage that is output then reads as pixel-thin extrusions of the existing video, determined by their correlation to the gradient map behind then.

--------------------> I then thought about a way of transforming the audio from these videos ripped from YouTube through a similar process of MINCING. ed of the This is what happened: I slowed the speed of the audio dramatically (around 25%), and what I found happening was a disruption of the 'whole', similar to extrusion, which was subsequently reformed into something which was an entirely different 'whole' yet still recognisable.
